Zel grew up a farmer's daughter on a world nearly permenantly stuck in its medivel/fantasy age. Her father was a strict conformist/traditionalist and staunchly refused to acknowledge his daughter's off-planet dreams of joining the PeaceKeepers. Ater a very vocal fight that left Zel's gentle-hearted mother in tears, Zel packed her bags and jumped planet for PKHQ.
She was admitted to PeaceKeeper Naval Training after showing tremendous aptitude in pilot tests, but dropped out some two months before graduation due to increasingly difficult fights with professors and other recruits.
Once on the outside, she joined up with Lanados Planetary Navy as a fighter pilot. While in the LPN, fellow pilots nicknamed her "Rapunzel", for her fantasy-like homeworld and background, as well as her long, red hair. They soon shortened it to simply "Zel". Once she had earned enough money to make a down-payment on her own ship, she left the LPN and began taking commission work; i.e. shuttling private individuals, shipping merchandise, etc. As she continued, shady activities came her way and she quickly slipped into smuggling.
