Welcome to PeaceKeeper Headquarters
Chavenlink, Quorta III
Sergeant Lyla Toomney's Office
Sergeant Lyla Toomney's office is just large enough to accomodate her
spartan needs. Directly across from the door is a good-sized metal-and-wood
desk with two chairs in front of it and one behind. Carefully organized files
and loose hardcopy are stacked in plastic bins and a neat computer terminal is
inset into the desktop.
To the right of the door is a massive picture window. If the blue and maroon
curtains weren't drawn, you could see that the window overlooks the dusty main
street of Chavenlink. The curtains are fairly thin and just barely screen the
view, both in and out. Underfoot is soft, well-worn navy-blue carpet. One
spot under the picture window is darker, badly stained. Upon closer
examination, the stain appears to be blood. Who knows how old the stain is.
To the left of the door is a half-height bookcase jammed with tactical
journals, technical manuals, thick PKHQ dispatches and cultural encyclopedias.
One small section is completely devoted to 'fluff' reading: Novels, science
fiction and science fact, ancient literary works. Apparently, Chavenlink's
junior sergeant is very well read. Above the bookcase is a old-fashioned
watercolor painting. It seems semi-abstract, depicting many pairs of hands
reaching after a fleeing, winged figure with a bird's head and spotted legs and
tail. A small framed document beside it proclaims:
Liberation, 1/112
